CONTEMPORARY TRANSLATION STUDIES
This study group aims at investigating translation from the perspective of the myriad theories about this activity and by analyzing translated texts, understood here in their broadest sense as everything that undergoes a transformation between languages and, therefore, can encompass visual, audiovisual, performative materials, etc. in addition to written texts. Thus, the group’s research focus is on the interdisciplinary nature of translation, which allows for the convergence of different theoretical approaches (historical, philosophical, linguistic, and cultural, for example) and on the critical examination of translations, in order to reflect on the nature and the effects of the transformations that occur in every translation process.

CCO – SENTENCE CONNECTIVES AND CONNECTION RESEARCH GROUP
The aim of the group is to investigate the role of connectives in the Portuguese grammar and the different processes of connecting sentences, in both synchronic and diachronic approaches. The group shares a functionalist vision of language, but investigations are always open to dialogue with other theoretical perspectives. Part of the great mosaic of our current research themes are the morphosyntactic and semantic-pragmatic roles of argumentative operators, discursive markers and all elements of lato sensu connection, including prepositions, conjunctions, adverbs and other grammar categories. The group focuses on the canonical and non-canonical processes of sentence integration as well.

RESEARCH GROUP IN SEMIOLINGUISTICS – LEIFEN – READING, FRUITION AND TEACHING
The group is guided by the Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse Analysis, founded by Patrick Charaudeau, with the objective of investigating the process of construction of meanings, both at the reception end, and in the production of texts, in order to capture the mechanisms internal (textual) and external (discursive and situational) that contribute to meaning. In this way, the investigations conducted by the group favor the link with teaching, with a view not only to the creation of methodologies aimed at literacy, but also to the problematization of reading (in a broad sense). In addition to monthly meetings, the group annually offers a discussion forum open to the public according to topics of interest.

LENUFFLE – ‘NUMÉRIQUE’ LITERACY AT UFF IN FRENCH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Seeking to articulate reflections around FLE, this study group was born at UFPE in 2012, contemplating the demands in terms of research in the area in that region until 2018. Currently, LENUFFLE, by being located at Federal Fluminense, came to incorporate UFF to its name, also incorporating the demands that emerged in this new context of action. Discussing research, training and extension are the dynamics experienced by this plural group, whose perspective of Literacy in Languages allows bringing together projects that are situated in the dialogue between linguistic analyses and social practices. It aims at deepening the relationships established between discursive communities, understood as producers of meaning and apprehended in the constitution of the subject in their political, historical and cultural actions. Theoretical-methodological references also privilege the existing articulations between language practices and situations involving language teaching and translation projects. Therefore, the collective identity of LENUFFLE proposes discussions that radiate into the field of language studies and literary expression in the contemporary context. In recent years, it has also had a significant production with works on the new Information Technologies for Education (ITE) and on Français sur Objectif Spécifique – FOS, in particular FOS Scolaire.

NECLES – NUCLEUS OF CRITICAL STUDIES IN LANGUAGES, EDUCATION AND SOCIETY
The Nucleus of Critical Studies in Languages, Education and Society (NECLES) aims to promote social justice, defending an egalitarian, inclusive and pluralistic vision of education and society. NECLES focuses on theoretical-conceptual reflections on issues of cultural and linguistic diversity, inequalities, transnationalism, multiculturalism and interculturalism, centering on the relationships between languages, education and society. The group adopts critical traditions from human and social sciences, mainly from the perspectives of critical literacy, new and multi-literacies, critical pedagogy, critical sociology, and applied linguistics. Having an interdisciplinary nature, NECLES brings together researchers who analyze social relations and practices concerning education, as well as new modalities of literacy(ies) and new didactic approaches that favor social justice. Criticism is defined here as a concern for the expression of unequal power relations, in their diverse forms (economic, linguistic and cultural), including sexism, racism, homophobia and transphobia, and their reflection in school and non-school spaces. The group conducts research on both the mother tongue and additional languages and dialects, as well as linguistic hybridism theories, such as translanguage and interlanguage, considering favorable spaces for the construction of meaning, such as the classroom, the streets, the media, social networks and literature.

PORUS – NUCLEUS OF LINGUISTIC STUDIES OF PORTUGUESE IN USE
The PorUs Nucleus’ specific study object is the Portuguese language in use. The debate it promotes focuses on the different variations of Portuguese in the world, with emphasis on the Brazilian and European variants. The group’s research delves into the influence of discourse in shaping grammar, and into the role of grammar in shaping discourse, focusing on underlying cognitive aspects. It also prioritizes the interrelationship between Cognitive Semantics and Functionalist Syntax in understanding the phenomena under analysis. It also works on the constitution of a corpus of Rio de Janeiro State speech by means of audio and video recordings of spontaneous conversations. This group’s activities, which relies on the active participation of (doctoral, master’s and undergraduate) students, seeks to have a crucial impact on the academic life of its members, not only in the writing of academic essays (final papers, dissertations and theses), but also in conducting research projects and in the scientific production of its researchers.

NTC – TRANSLATION AND CREATION CENTER
Created in 2016, the Translation and Creation Nucleus (NTC/UFF) is a group of professors, researchers and students gathered to conduct research on these areas and to promote these fields in the academic world. The group’s starting point is a perspective that understands the processes of translating and creating as convergent, considering that both move across epistemological boundaries, requiring, because of their nature, an interdisciplinary approach that traditional sciences tend to compartmentalize. From this convergence, the task of translation is validated, whether it is literary, specialized or audiovisual, because it always contains a fundamentally creative and reflexive act. In turn, the task of creating beyond the aspects of invention and reflection on the subject and object also requires an act of translation when it is understood as a way of interpreting and understanding the world.
